Biography
Klostès is a Sicilian all-female quartet formed in 2021. The name comes from the Ancient Greek κλωστή and refers to the thread obtained by spinning: the raw fibre that becomes weave through the rotation of the spindles. From the image of women sitting in a circle to spin wool, Klostès draw their musical gesture, weaving melodies and threading the textures of Mediterranean anthropological tradition. The group features Luisa Biondo (harp, vocals), Eleonora Bonincontro (oud), Annamaria Castrogiovanni (guitar) and Novella Novelli (vocals). The energies that gather in their sessions give life to light, persuasive, imperfect and ancient sounds, and to the pleasure of sharing the evocations of a heritage too often forgotten. Their music, which they themselves call "Antropop", is a narrative of the inhabitants of Sicily and of the archetypes of an island that sits at the center of the Mediterranean universe, a stage on which everyone passes through, inevitably leaving something of themselves. The work of Klostès is a recovery of intellectual and material heritage, a rereading of anthropological and ethnomusicographic texts that brings contemporary freshness through distinctive and unique sonorities. Among their works are the album "Mari. Amuri. Scungiuri." (2023) and the single "Sant'Aita" (2025), a dedication to Saint Agatha in which the patron saint of weavers returns to move through the streets of a Roman-era Catania and her veil becomes a talisman of collective protection.
