Biography
Mimì Sterrantino, born Domenico Sterrantino, is an Italo-Swedish singer-songwriter with Sicilian roots. He was born in January 1984 on the banks of a frozen river in northern Sweden; a few months later his family moved to the eastern coast of Sicily, to Castelmola, a village perched above Taormina, where he grew up.
From his father, a folk singer, he absorbed a passion for traditional music; from his Swedish mother he inherited a cosmopolitan outlook that led him to explore rock, blues, world music, Mediterranean folk song and Italian and overseas songwriting with equal curiosity. He spent hours listening to everything, and at nineteen began composing his own songs, reworking his influences in a personal way and relying on a warm, deep voice.
In February 2007 he released his first self-titled EP, "Mimì Sterrantino"; at the same time he began his collaboration with I Beddi, the Sicilian group of which, from 2008, he became lead vocalist and with which he co-signed albums such as "Ppi jocu e pp'amuri" (2008), "Siciliazero" (2010), "Della rivoluzione e di altri folklorismi" (2016), "Non chiamateci Folksinger" (2021) and "Fuoco alla polvere" (2025).
After years of study and musical research he chose to self-produce, and in October 2012, together with the band Gli Accusati, recorded his first full-length album "Spengo il televisore", in which traditional sounds meet contemporary ones. The albums "Un lupo sul divano" (2014), "Liggenni" (2018) and "Mircanti" (2019) followed, along with the two volumes of "La ricerca del blues" (2020 and 2021), a journey in the footsteps of the great blues masters that brings Sicilian roots into dialogue with African American ones, and the album "Dù" (2024), in which folk, world, rock and electronic converge into a contemporary songwriting language.
