Rumors of... War: Martux_M and Økapi reread twelve episodes of war
Released on Anaglyphos on 14 March 2025, Rumors of... War is the concept album built by Martux_M and Økapi around twelve historical episodes of conflict, each marked by a date and a place. From the 1914 Sarajevo assassination to 11 September 2001, twelve tracks of art electronics, plunderphonics and electroacoustic composition.
Rumors of... War was released on Anaglyphos on 14 March 2025. The record is the work of Martux_M (Maurizio Martusciello) and Økapi (Filippo Paolini), longtime collaborators under the moniker Metaxu, the duo the two formed in the mid-Nineties.
The concept
Twelve tracks, each marked by a date and a place referring to historical episodes of conflict. The record opens with 28061914 — Sarajevo (the assassination that triggered the First World War), passes through 01091939 — Warsaw (the German invasion of Poland), 06091945 — Hiroshima, 07121941 — Pearl Harbor, 25061950 — Seoul, 11092001 — New York, all the way to 09041948 — Deir Yassin. A historical map written in sound.
The sonic language
Crystallized samples, scratching, field recordings, electronic percussion and strings: the record moves between art electronics, plunderphonics and electroacoustic composition. The pieces escape pure noise thanks to the strings and acoustic material that restore a human dimension to the war machinery the album describes.
The credits
Original mastering by Pasquale Minieri at Elettra-studio in Rome; post-mastering by Louis Dufort. Artwork by Camilla Falsini.
