Play Your Dream: Danilo Rea, Nello Toscano and Mimmo Cafiero
A late-night game played from a distance. Three musicians at the center of the Italian and international jazz scene meet up to make music that moves beyond styles.
Available digitally from 24 May 2024, the single Play Your Dream features three musicians at the heart of the Italian jazz scene: Danilo Rea on piano, Nello Toscano on double bass, Mimmo Cafiero on drums.
One winter evening, during a concert with Danilo and Mimmo, something unexpected happened. Danilo laid down two almost-suspended chords, lost in thought; Mimmo and I exchanged a glance the audience couldn't catch, hoping one of us would figure out which song we were heading toward.
A few weeks later, around midnight, Danilo sent Toscano an audio file of solo piano. Those two chords from the concert. The single grew from there, in three tracks recorded at a distance that locked into one another until they became a finished piece.
